Huntingdon Valley SEPTA Regional Rail Station
|
Huntingdon Valley Station would operate on the site of the former SEPTA station at Welsh and Terwood Roads. This station would serve residents along the Welsh Road corridor, as well as residents in the nearby Gloria Dei Towers and Huntingdon Place condominiums. Some land acquisition would be required to construct additional parking for commuters. The existing site now houses a car detailing garage, and could accommodate up to 250 cars if the garage were razed. The parking along with the high density developments nearby would make this station extremely viable. This station would provide overflow relief for the constrained Meadowbrook and Bethayres stations, both of which are operating at capacity. Under one scenario, SEPTA could reestablish service to this station from the West Trenton (R3) line to this station alone, at a lower cost per passenger than increasing parking capacity at Bethayres or Meadowbrook. Reopening this station would provide walking access to the SEPTA Huntingdon Valley Station for the many residents in Huntingdon Place. Additionally, this station would provide transit access to the senior citizens in Gloria Dei Towers who may have limited or no access to automobiles for trips to Bucks County or to Philadelphia. Within a 1 block walk is the new Toll Brother's Huntingdon Place Luxury Condominiums. While this development is 2.5 blocks from the Bethayres Station, it is not readily walkable, and any commuters from this development would be inclinded to drive to Bethayres station due to the difficulty and distance in crossing Huntingdon Pike.Welsh Road, looking west, towards Huntingdon Valley station. The proposed station is at the traffic signal.
